Something Worthwhile

This battered heart
growing up
the hard way
learning to take
bruises and scrapes in stride
using these tears
to wash away the bad
clear out for the good
taking baby steps now
down the long and winding road
ran and fell enough
to learn that lesson
just want to finish the race
don't have to be first
placing faith that
grace'll get me through
and life will chisel
something worthwhile
out of me yet

  1. Life is what we make of it isn't it. It does shape us and make us but, it doesn't have to break us, unless we let it.
This is powerful in resolve and determination to succeed even through past hurt.
    Very nice read.

  2. Well-written story. I agree that taking part is more important than finishing first :-) Hopefully, we are getting into something worthwhile.

  7. Yes, to finish the race is important. Not necessarily to be first or second, but to FINISH, even if last! I like your poem and message.

  10. It's about the survival in race, for as long as possible, rather than a race to get there first! Life is what we make of it, but life makes something of us too.. a very intriguing take to this.
