Time to Say Goodbye
Time to say goodbye
time to move on
pack up my bags
get good and gone
took a chance
and lost again
fought a fight
I couldn't win
bruised my heart
but it didn't break
I gave much more
than he let me take
seems he only
wanted a taste
such a pretty boy
such a waste
throw my hands up
fair and square
not begging for something
that isn't there
so he'll go his way
and I'll go mine
don't worry 'bout me
I'll be just fine
and if I think about him
every now and then
and sometimes wonder
what might have been
give me some leeway
cut me some slack
'cause it's every girl's right
to take a glance back
and remember the feel
of the last boy's arms
before falling into
the next one's sweet charms.

I like that! It's a much more realistic view of young love than we usually get!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you said it all...
ReplyDeleteconversing with the fire
Set it to music!
ReplyDeleteTime to Say Good-Bye
I second that. This needs music.. It has such a smooth rhythm to the flow. Beautiful.
DeleteI have been repeating "Time to Move On" by Tom Petty since I wrote this, or maybe I wrote it with it in mind. But I don't know if I could get that music out of my head enough to think of my own.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done!
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to say goodbye but, if someone is using us, then, sometimes it's the only way to save our hearts from being completely broken. It could be a song too :)
ReplyDeleteYou have captured the sadness of goodbye beautifully!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great exit strategy!
ReplyDeleteLiked the way the last 6 lines was put forth with a frankness. great expression of thoughts.
ReplyDeleteA positive ending! Thanks for taking part in Cary On Tuesday
ReplyDeletePositive direction in lost love ...

I agree with the music note...sounds so true ... could be a country music song. I like the way you remember the sweet and not the bitter...tells me a little about the type of person you are
