I'll Take What I Can Get

I've given up on longing
Of wanting what I can't have.
It seems such a useless thing
So I'll just take what I can get.

If you look at me I'll be satisfied
That your eyes rest on me.
I'll no longer wish
I was the only one you see.

And if you hold me in your arms
I'll just be happy to be held.
I won't wish with all my heart
That you'll never let me go.

And if you give me kisses
I'll enjoy the sweetness of your lips.
I won't long to be kissed
In front of a preacher.

I'm not going to ache and miss you
When you go away.
I'm not going to beg and plead
To keep you here with me.

I've given up on longing
On I love you's and I do's.
It seems such a useless thing
I'll take what I can get.

  1. This one touches me deeply. I know this feeling well. There is a certain sadness to this one that is quite moving.
