Ophelia and I

Ophelia and I

little girls running

beside the stream

wildflowers waiting to bloom

we whispered about boys

and that intangible someday

too young to steady our pace

arms open wide

too shortsighted to see

the marathon length before us

we sprinted until

we tumbled down winded

the verdant shores

remember those little girls

wild and free

before she succumbed

to her watery grave

and I fell victim

to the ennui of life

but when I dream

I feel her hand in mine

feel the wind whipping my hair

the sweet joy

of friendship and youth

found with Ophelia

by the summer stream

    1. As a character, she is so fascinating. Shakespeare left so much to our imagination, that what wasn't written about her has taken on a life of its own.

  4. Love your poem. It somewhat echoes the one about October by Dylan Thomas that I posted. Also, Ophelia's death is similar to Edith Holden's the artist from my last weeks ABC.

  5. So very appropriate and visionary, Indeed she drowned in an ocean of watery feeling, like the rune Laguz.

  7. Ophelia has been referenced in many ways (including the book, Reviving Ophelia, about the challenges faced by girls in our society), but never as sweetly, as innocently, as this. You truly moved me with your poem. Thanks, and peace, Amy

  8. Such a wonderful poem about innocence lost and how we should treasure the time before. It is truly like losing a friend and once we are grown we realize how much we want our children to hold on to it, knowing that they want to lose it as quickly as they can. If only we had known how our lives would change then maybe we too would have held on for as long as possible.

Happy Wild Theme Thursday! Thanks for such a wonderful poem.

    God bless.
